Better Basics

A city should feel cared for

Residents experience the condition of our streets, illegal dumping, neglected properties, drainage, pedestrian conditions, parks and the appearance of our neighborhoods every day.

Desert Hot Springs has made progress in public safety. We should build on that progress by making sure the city also feels cleaner, better maintained and easier to take pride in.

My approach is to set clear maintenance priorities, address recurring dumping and blight problems, track major infrastructure projects for cost and completion, and actively pursue regional, state and federal funding so local dollars can go further.

Responsible Government

Spend carefully. Plan beyond the next budget

Fiscal responsibility is not simply about spending less. It is about understanding what we are paying for, what results we are getting and what today's decisions will cost in the years ahead.

I want major expenditures tied to clear objectives, strong oversight of significant contracts and projects, competitive processes where appropriate, and decisions that consider both the immediate price and the long-term cost to taxpayers.

Responsible government also means strengthening the revenue side. Desert Hot Springs needs a broader, more resilient tax base through quality commercial growth, local sales-tax activity, hospitality and tourism so City services are less dependent on any one industry or revenue source.

Local Opportunity & Economic Growth

Growth should make Desert Hot Springs better, not simply bigger

Desert Hot Springs has assets most cities cannot recreate: natural mineral water, a spa and hospitality identity, available land, a downtown that is still taking shape and a location within one of California's major tourism regions.

The question is not simply, "What development can we get?" It is: "What kind of city do we want Desert Hot Springs to become?"

My approach is to understand what residents currently leave DHS to buy or experience elsewhere, identify where commercial and hospitality investment has the strongest potential, make the development process more predictable for quality projects, support local businesses and focus public investment where it can help unlock additional private investment.
